ASTM A615 - Portland Bolt
ASTM A615 covers deformed and plain carbon steel bars for concrete reinforcement. This specification covers bars and coils in four grades, Grade 40, Grade 60, Grade 75, and Grade 80. The grade designates the yield strength of the material, i.e. Grade 60 has a 60ksi minimum yield.

General Steel Reinforcing Question with Rebar - Eng-Tips
Recently a fabricator asked me to a question regarding the welding requirements on an open-web steel joist reinforcing detail. The detail required the fabricator to weld a piece of #5 reinforcing to the chord of the joist. When I questioned the fabricator regarding the material specified he said that they used ASTM A615 rebar. I informed him that welding A615 causes issues and that they should be using ASTM A706. He said they used the reinforcing that was specified on the engineer's drawings.
My question is in regards to the use of ASTM A615 reinforcing for this style of reinforcing. Is this allowed (and I'm just a dink for not allowing people to use this type of material) or is the EOR wrong to specify this type of reinforcing?
